Sustainability
Laminex New Zealand supports the belief that a company needs to be responsible for its actions – socially, ethically, and environmentally.
GREENfirst™ has been established to encompass Laminex New Zealand’s numerous programmes of environmental management. This strategy reflects our belief that action must follow good intentions and ambitious goals.
Laminex New Zealand strongly believes in the importance of supporting sustainable building practices. For this reason, we’re putting ‘green’ first and employing a range of processes, as well as the latest technology, to ensure we reduce our carbon footprint and deliver environmentally preferable products wherever possible. From the manufacturing plants to installation, we’re working closely with our customers to foster a sustainable building industry.
Investing substantial resources to education about environmental sustainability; investigating and implementing innovative solutions to waste reduction and energy optimisation; and various initiatives to benefit employees, their families, customers and the community at large are just some of the ways we are working towards a better future, together.

Product Leadership
In line with our business philosophy, we have developed a variety of environmentally-preferable solutions that meet, and often exceed, typical industry recommendations. We work closely with the NZ Green Building Council to gain an in-depth understanding of Green Star® and have developed an impressive suite of products that are able to help maximise Green Star® and Home Star ® credits.
Laminex New Zealand is helping drive positive change by engaging the power of market dynamics, giving customers informed choices about the products available for building and renovating. People want to know their homes are being built from locally made, ethically sourced and environmentally sound products—Laminex New Zealand provides consumers with confidence when it comes to sourcing these products.
Having an extensive range of both low emission and third party certified products is only one of the reasons Laminex New Zealand is considered a leader in regards to sustainability. Laminex New Zealand is the first company in Australasia to have a Red List free product (Strandfloor®) listed in the Declare database; a platform of the Living Building Challenge, one of the building industry’s most rigorous and ambitious performance standards. Considered the 'nutrition label' for the industry, and widely accepted as the most advanced green building standard in the world, the Declare label offers unprecedented transparency into the ingredients, sourcing, and manufacturing of labelled products.
Doing well, by doing good.
Laminex New Zealand is proud to have received two Commended awards at the EECA Awards 2016: Trustpower Renewable Energy Award & University of Waikato Innovation Award.

Making sure we source our materials sustainably is a crucial first-step in the manufacturing process.
Through our GREENfirst™ programme we employ a range of strategies to support our sustainability goals, including the use of sustainable and recycled materials as raw material or fuels, the use of renewable energy—particularly biomass—and the introduction of new technologies to improve energy efficiency.
Innovative methods are used to manage waste from manufacturing processes including industrial vermiculture (worm-farming) for organic waste and wood waste as a source of bioenergy thereby diverting material from landfill, reducing vehicle movements, and reducing our demand for fossil fuel generated electricity.
RESPONSIBLE FOREST MANAGEMENT: As a large manufacturer of wood products we respect and support responsible forest management. Laminex New Zealand has achieved Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) Chain of Custody (CoC) certification for all three local manufacturing plants, along with the entire supply chain.
